More than ever, engineering projects that focus on sustainable energy, building materials, and small industry can vastly improve the lives of people in disadvantaged and developing regions.

Such projects involve elements of technology, public policy, government, and educational outreach. Faculty and students in the Program in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy at the Woodrow Wilson School, the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, and the Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials bring different perspectives and expertise to bear on pressing issues facing the developing world, with help from fellow Princeton researchers already working in this area in such programs as the U.S./Africa Materials Institute.
